The Kalinganagar plant of Tata Steel achieved a significant achievement through its Phase II expansion that increased the company’s domestic production capacity to 26.1 million tonnes. The expansion project at the Kalinganagar facility increased its production capacity by 5 MT through a ₹27,000 crore investment while raising the plant’s total output from 3 MT to 8 MT.
The Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi performed the inauguration of the expanded plant on Thursday which marked an important development for Tata Steel’s expansion in the state. The development extends past steel manufacturing according to TV Narendran who serves as the CEO and Managing Director. The Kalinganagar project demonstrates the potential of community-government-industry partnerships. The steel company demonstrates its dedication to Odisha through this facility he declared.
The expanded plant enables Tata Steel to better serve advanced sectors that require high-strength steel products including automotive manufacturing and infrastructure development and shipbuilding and defense operations and power generation. The blast furnace installation at the site stands as the biggest facility of its kind in India because it measures 5,870 cubic meters in volume.
Tata Steel has spent more than ₹1 lakh crore throughout the previous ten years to establish Odisha as its biggest investment hub. The company maintains its main operations at Kalinganagar and operates facilities at Meramandali (5.6 MT), Jamshedpur (11 MT) and Gamharia and NINL (1 MT each).
The Kalinganagar expansion includes value chain capacity upgrades from raw materials to downstream cold rolling mill complexes which represents a complete upgrade of infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities.
Tata Steel achieved a major achievement which strengthened its position as India’s leading steel producer and established Odisha as its central location for future technological advancement.
