The “Udaan Yatri Cafe” will soon be opened for travellers by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in an effort to address the problem of expensive food and drinks at airports. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and the eighth anniversary of the UDAN project, which emphasises regional air connectivity, the initiative will be introduced at Kolkata Airport first.
At an event held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in Delhi on Friday, December 13, Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu presented the official logo for the airport’s centennial celebrations. “Passengers were traveling through UDAAN to felicitate them more,” Naidu said during the event. “We are trying to launch a new cafe at the Kolkata airport called ‘Udan Yatri Cafe’ recently, which is one of its kind, and we feel that this is going to specially cater the passengers who are traveling through the UDAN scheme.”
In the departure area of Kolkata Airport, the pilot project will install Udaan Yatri Cafe kiosks, which will provide affordable tea, coffee, snacks, and water, among other necessary refreshments. After its success in Kolkata, the program will be extended to all airports run by the Airport Authority of India (AAI).
Naidu went on to say that the Ministry is trying to make air travel more accessible and inexpensive, particularly as India’s aviation industry continues to expand rapidly and provide more job possibilities. On December 21, a special stamp and coin issue will mark the beginning of the three-month celebrations to mark the centennial of Kolkata’s airport.
“We will hold three-month celebrations so that the Indian airport authority, the entire city of Kolkata, and the people of Bengal can join in the fun.” We would want to honour the 100th anniversary by producing a coin and stamp on December 21st. In addition, our Prime Minister has given the airport a specific directive over the last ten years, stating that it must showcase India’s rich cultural legacy via design, he continued.
