Bobby and Sunny Deol, brothers, were honoured at the third SCREEN Live event, held on Monday at KC College in Mumbai. The pair shared details of their personal and professional experiences, highlighting the highs and lows and the connection that holds them together. In his film Dharam Veer, Bobby also discussed his experience working with his father, Dharmendra.
Bobby, who played the young Dharmendra, described how his father made the proposition to him. “I was five or six years old,” he stated. Acting has always been my dream job. At that time, my father was practising Dharam Veer and desired a kid resembling him. He couldn’t locate a youngster with large, thick legs. They continued to get children who were quite frail. “Let me ask my son,” he thought. “Tu meri film mai acting karega, mere bachpan ka role karega?” he challenged me. “Will you act in my film and play my childhood role?)” “Haan karunga” (Yes, I will do it) was my response. When you are young, you just believe that life is lovely and you have no inhibitions or fears.
“They made this dress for me overnight because I had to shoot the next day,” the Animal actor explained, referring to the famous black leather dress he wore in the scene twinning with his father. Back then, I never wore underpants. They made me wear this outfit while I was filming. “Why are they making me wear a dress?” I asked. “Bhawarlal, mere paas chaddi nahi hai (I don’t have any underwear), how will I wear this?” I questioned Bhawarlal, who had previously worked with my dad. To put underneath my dress, they gave me a pair of shorts. However, it was stunning.
Bobby Deol said he requested his father, Dharmendra, for payment for his job in Dharam Veer. After performing the performance, I asked my father, “Where is my money? I want my money since I worked. “Aa mai deta hu, tu chup kar,” he said. The director and producer of the movie were standing there, and he was at a loss for words. “Go give it to your grandmother and make sure it is distributed among the staff members,” he added, handing me a bundle of 10,000 notes as we sat in the car.
“I was so pleased of myself that I went home excitedly and gave my grandma the money so she could divide it. To show my sisters and aunts what I did in the movie, I was so thrilled that I shattered a lot of hangers around the house. I felt really elated. I attended the Golden Jubilee awards ceremony for the movie. They created a unique award for me with my name on it,” Bobby continued.
