A $107,999 tiny home in San Antonio has recently gone viral on TikTok and people are evenly divided between praising its concept and criticizing its design. This 350-square-foot property, which is being offered for sale in San Antonio and possibly the whole of the United States as the ‘smallest home money can buy’, has become a subject of discussion for housing advocates and skeptics alike.
The tiny home is situated on the east side of the city and has one bedroom, one bathroom, and one parking space. Some TikTok users applauded its minimalist design and the affordability, but others were like, ‘I couldn’t even fit a bed in there let alone a desk and a sofa.’ Real estate agent Miguel Mata, who toured the home and posted the tour online has since made it go viral.
Texas has started to incorporate smaller houses as a way to solve the housing affordability issue. Realtor.com found that the median square footage of new homes in the state has shrunken by 5.3% since 2020, thus moving away from the previous trend of more and more space. There has been an increase in the number of tiny home communities in San Antonio after homebuilding giant Lennar introduced properties in the Elm Trails subdivision.
However, not everyone is convinced by the tiny living concept. Some people can’t stand the lack of space, or the idea of knocking one’s head on the ceiling in the upper floor, while others simply get congested at the very idea.
Although people are split between loving and hating this $107K tiny home, it has received a national exposure, which shows that San Antonio is emerging as a hub for the small houses movement. As the cost of housing keeps on rising, tiny houses are finally serving as both a solution and a subject of interest.
