New FASTag rules have been updated from February 17, 2025 to improve the toll collection system and to reduce cases of fraud. These new policies have been developed to reduce the incidence of blacklisting of FASTags, delayed payments, and chargebacks to enhance the efficiency of operations on highways. Blacklisted FASTags are also covered by new specific standards. If the toll scans the FASTag when it is blacklisted, no payment will be made. Also, if the FASTag was blacklisted at least 10 minutes before the scanning of the toll, the toll transaction will be declined. A 70-minute window is also provided to resolve any issues with the FASTag before approaching toll plazas. Another significant change is the effects of blacklisting. If the driver has a blacklisted FASTag for his vehicle at the time of tolling, he will have to pay double the amount. However, if the recharge is done within 10 minutes of scanning, a request for a refund of the penalty can be submitted. Delayed toll transactions are also in the spotlight. If the transaction is made more than 15 minutes after the vehicle has passed the toll, then there is a charge. Now, banks can raise chargebacks for disputed deductions from blacklisted or low-balance FASTags only 15 days after the incident. It is important to comply with the new FASTag rules to not experience any problems when traveling. It is, therefore, advisable that drivers keep an active FASTag and sufficient balance to avoid fines and to make easy toll payments on highways.
