Gujarat has now become the favorite place for semiconductor units to establish themselves in India and the state has paved its way to connect to the global semiconductor supply chain as stated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. During the Gujarat SemiConnect 2025 event in Gandhinagar, Patel stated that the state is gradually emerging as a technology hub. He also pointed out that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is expanding its presence in the new emerging industries including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, machine learning and drones.
The three-day conference is expected to attract investments and depict the potential of the state in the global semiconductor value chain, as well as reinforce the local industries and promote innovation. Some of the agreements were signed during the event, including the ₹91,526 crore financial support pact that Tata Electronics entered into with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to set up a semiconductor fabrication unit in Dholera.
Also, NextGen in association with Hitachi and SolidLight, signed an agreement to set up a compound semiconductor fab and optoelectronics facility worth ₹10,000 crore. Jabil India Ltd. has also given an intent to establish silicon photonics manufacturing unit in Gujarat with an investment of ₹1,000 crore. Other major collaborations are the tripartite partnership between Tata Electronics, PSMC of Taiwan and Himax Technologies and a new semiconductor unit by Kaynes Technology in Sanand. The state is well on its way to boosting its semiconductor sector while also attracting global players and investment. It is a landmark step towards India’s growth as a global player in semiconductor industry, as well as its Atmanirbhar initiative to become self reliant in chip manufacturing.
