The platform at zomato has announced plans to share customer information with restaurants but users must give their consent first. The platform has introduced a permission-based system which will determine when customer data becomes available to restaurants. Users will get a notification before zomato shares their phone number for promotional messages.
Restaurants claim data access enables them to track customer buying patterns and preferences which helps them create improved promotional offers. Users face new risks because of data misuse and spam problems which occurred when previous data-sharing initiatives were implemented. The new data-sharing system between zomato and the National Restaurants Association of India includes complete user control and strict data usage restrictions.
The Ownly platform from Rapido and Swiggy might adopt this data access model in their upcoming updates. The online food delivery market will reach $54.97 billion in 2025 while showing rapid expansion so restaurants and delivery platforms must access customer information to succeed
