The Competition Commission of India issued a final probe report to Apple about its suspected dominance abuse in the iOS app store market which led to CCI taking action against the tech company. The CCI requires Apple to submit its response or objections regarding the findings by mid-October while Together We Fight Society needs to present its comments about the results.
Apple received instructions to submit complete financial records showing global and Indian business performance from 2022 through 2024 to help determine penalty amounts. The sources verified that CCI delivered formal notices to Apple and Together We Fight Society during late August with a six-week deadline for compliance.
The investigation began in December 2021 when the commission started a thorough investigation into Apple’s suspected abuse of market dominance. The investigation defined the market as the “app store for iOS in India” because Apple’s App Store operates as the exclusive distribution platform. The investigation found that developer rules block competitors from launching alternative app stores which resulted in complete market exclusion of competitors.
Apple needs to respond to the investigation because it has reached its final stage in one of India’s most significant antitrust cases.
