As a part of a global workforce reduction strategy, Boeing has down sized about 180 employees at its engineering technology center in Bengaluru. The move is in line with Boeing’s previous plan to down size its global workforce by 10 per cent, impacting operations in various regions including India. According to a source, the event took place in December quarter 2024 at the Boeing India Engineering Technology Center (BIETC). However, Boeing has taken a measured approach to restructuring while it has important operations in India, which has approximately 7,000 employees, a critical market for the company. To the source, there has been nothing but strategic adjustments’ to optimize operations without adversely affecting customers or government partnerships. Some positions have been removed through the layoffs, but new roles have also been created. Boeing continues to have a very focused effort on customer service, safety and quality standards even while restructuring. Bengaluru and Chennai are important centers for Boeing’s global operations, and India is a key hub, engaging in complex aerospace projects. Boeing is an important company in India, sourcing annually about $1.25 billion from network of over 300 suppliers. In streamlining its global workforce, the company has not forgotten its long term commitments and technological advancements in the aerospace industry.
