Starlink prepares to launch satellite broadband services in India after receiving expected government authorization. The company has formed distribution agreements with Jio and Airtel which enables fast market expansion. The satellite internet market faces growing competition because Chinese companies SpaceSail plan to launch their services in Brazil as well as Malaysia and Kazakhstan. The expansion of Chinese satellite firms presents a potential threat to Starlink’s yearly target of acquiring one million new subscribers.
Starlink will face competition in the Indian market from both Amazon Kuiper and local providers Airtel and Jio. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reached its final stage of spectrum allocation for satellite services because their consultation process is almost finished.
Starlink has been seeking permission to enter the Indian market since 2022. The satellite internet system from Starlink connects to SpaceX’s low-orbit satellites to provide dependable connectivity for distant regions. Starlink will start its operations after receiving regulatory approvals and spectrum allocation through its new partnerships with Jio and Airtel.
