Shark Tank India, an Indian business reality show, featured entrepreneur Rajat Dua, who drank hair oil on TV recently. Rajat, his wife Nidhi Tuteja Dua, and his mother Rajni Dua, showed the purity of the brand, Nidhi’s Grandmaa Secret by drinking the oil claiming it was made from 13 fresh herbs with Nidhi. In a recent AMA session on Reddit, Rajat Dua opened up on the viral moment. Anupam Mittal from Shaadi.com invested ₹70 lakh for 5% equity, with a royalty of 1% on the sales till the time of his investment recovery. Grandmaa Secret got ₹70 lakh from Anupam Mittal, who will get 1% royalty on the sales until his investment is retrieved. Rajat defended himself saying, “When you have a history of failures and then one thing starts working, impatience is natural.” A Redditor pointed out that Nidhi should follow Aman Gupta’s suggestion to take the charge of the business and make more decisions regarding business. To my surprise, my wife had the product idea, but she didn’t know how to scale. I had digital marketing experience, so we teamed up. Rajat also clarified that he had a wrong impression about Kunal Bahl because of the show’s editing. He explained, “Aman said, ‘He’ll sell this brand for ₹200-300 crore in 2-3 years… There is greed.’ I replied that I had two more ideas if this business didn’t work out, but it wasn’t about greed.”
