Sanjeev Bikhchandani is an entrepreneur who has started a post on social network X, warning that the United States is on its way to a ‘dystopian future’ due to the increasing power of billionaire Elon Musk. Musk is now running the government and private industry is telling him what to do, just like the British during colonial India, Bikhchandani wrote. Bikhchandhani noted that some 3 centuries ago, India underwent the negative impacts of a private company’s capture of a country, its people and its governance. He pointed out that the United States is experiencing the same thing at present because Musk has a strong relationship with the US administration. He continued, The US is experiencing that right now in shades of it, and this is unlikely to end well for the country because it is on its way to becoming a dystopian nation. Naukri.com and InfoEdge’s founder Bikhchandani, who has started several other companies, highlighted the conflicts of interest that are likely to stem from Musk’s position as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as well as the social media platform X, is also in charge of the department that is supposed to reduce government spending. This, according to Bikhchandani, is a big issue. He said that it is wrong for someone like Musk to hold these two positions at the same time because of the conflicts of interest that may arise. He said that this has never happened in India where it is expected that a government official or the head of a company has to choose between the two roles. However, there is Devendra Agrawal, the founder of Dexter Capital Advisors, who has stood out to counter Bikhchandani’s claim about India, noting that there have been several business leaders who have also served in government, including Rajeev Chandrashekar and Chandrababu Naidu. But one thing is for sure, Bikhchandani’s warning is still valid and clear: The United States is on its way to a dystopian future if it keeps on this path of convergence between corporations and government.
