An important step toward the airport’s anticipated operations in the upcoming year was taken today as Noida International Airport successfully finished its maiden flight validation test. The test flight was conducted by an IndiGo plane that was carrying just crew members when it took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. After passing the necessary security checks, the plane touched down on the runway. When the plane touched down, it was met by a water salute.
The airport, located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district, is scheduled to open in April of next year. Once it is operational, it will rank as the second-largest airport in the National Capital Region (NCR) after IGI Airport in Delhi. It was an esteemed undertaking, and the plane’s landing today was a huge accomplishment, said Ram Mohan Naidu, minister of civil aviation.
Christoph Schnellmann, the CEO of Noida International Airport, thanked the Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Airports Authority of India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation for their assistance. “By working as a cohesive team, we finished this project in record time,” he stated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Jewar Airport in November 2021. In partnership with Noida International Airport Limited, which is overseeing the project on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a division of the Swiss firm Zurich Airport International AG, is building the airport.
The 1,334-hectare airport’s first phase is anticipated to serve 12 million people a year. This figure is expected to increase to 30 million by the end of the decade, with a goal of 70 million passengers in the years to follow. The signal-free Yamuna Expressway, which connects the airport to Greater Noida, Noida, and Delhi, makes it easy for travellers to access the airport.
