The OTT platform Jiohotstar achieved 300 million subscribers which places it just below Netflix’s worldwide subscriber base of 301.63 million. The 2025 IPL season became the main driver behind Jiohotstar’s subscriber growth because it established multiple viewership records while digital platforms received most of the audience.
Jiohotstar maintained only 50 million subscribers throughout February. The IPL launch in May triggered a rapid increase of subscribers to 280 million before reaching the current total of 300 million. The digital audience for the tournament exceeded television viewership when it reached 652 million viewers while television reached 537 million viewers thus establishing a new pattern for Indian sports content consumption.
Jiohotstar achieved its highest-ever user count of 55.2 million simultaneous viewers when Royal Challengers Bengaluru played against Punjab Kings in the final match. The platform reached 1.04 billion Android downloads while attracting 425 advertisers who included 270 new participants to the platform.
The digital audience grew most rapidly in Telugu, Kannada and Tamil languages but Hindi experienced slower growth. Jiohotstar continues to challenge Netflix worldwide while transforming the digital entertainment industry in India through its current momentum.
