Maruti Suzuki India on Wednesday launched an all-new model Victoris to expand its product range in the country. The company wants to increase its presence in the fast-growing mid-size SUV segment, so the company has launched a new model.
Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hisasachi Takeuchi said at the launch ceremony of Victoris that India has the largest youth population in the world, which will further accelerate growth and become the current and future customers of the company. He also said that the Indian automobile industry is changing as a new group of customers is entering the market and this new group is the young generation and represents the new India. So we thought why not make a product that will help raise the standard in the SUV segment.
Takeuchi also said that the contribution of SUVs in the total sales of the company is continuously increasing. He said that the contribution of our SUVs to total sales has increased almost three times, from 8.9% in FY 2020-2021 to about 28% in FY 2024-2025.
Hisasachi Takeuchi said that the auto maker started by establishing a strong base in the entry SUV segment with models like Brezza and Francox and these vehicles have won the hearts of the customers and have helped the company a lot to gain a leading position in the entry SUV segment.
On the occasion of the new SUV, Takeuchi said that this model comes with several powertrain options including strong hybrid and CNG. He said that Victoris is our first car to have Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS). This new model includes automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, lane departure prevention and many other features.
This model will be sold from the company’s Arena sales network and this car will compete with cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Honda Elevate. So far Maruti Suzuki has not disclosed the price of this new model but has said that the company has invested about Rs 1,240 crore in the development of Victoris. Hisashi Takeuchi also said that the SUV will be exported to about 100 markets worldwide.
