The global patent dispute between Nokia and Amazon regarding streaming technology has concluded through a settlement that resolved cases across the US and Germany and India and the UK and European Unified Patent Court. Amazon acquired streaming video technology rights from Nokia through the agreement but the companies did not disclose the financial details.
Amazon faced multiple lawsuits from Nokia after the company claimed the technology giant used its patented technologies without authorization. Nokia obtained two major legal victories through its February Düsseldorf court win and its subsequent US International Trade Commission success. Amazon maintained that Nokia improperly used standard-essential patents to cut off product sales instead of providing reasonable licensing options.
The agreement occurred after Nokia enforced its intellectual property rights through legal actions against Mercedes-Benz and Lenovo.
The settlement between the tech companies enables them to direct their attention toward streaming service development and technological innovation without additional court proceedings.
