TATA Electronics plans to increase iPhone enclosure production at its Tamil Nadu Hosur plant by doubling its capacity from 50,000 to 100,000 units. The facility will start Phase II development after Apple launches new products in September. The expansion demonstrates TATA’s expanding position as a vital supplier in Apple’s worldwide supply chain.
The Hosur plant operations experienced a decrease in production following the September fire but have now restored their previous operational levels. TATA has initiated fast-paced output growth since the capacity returned to its pre-fire levels. TATA continues to strengthen its position in Apple’s ecosystem through its acquisition of Pegatron Technology India with a 60% stake and its previous purchase of Wistron’s India unit in Narsapura.
Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted India’s rising significance by announcing that most iPhones sold in the U.S. during the June quarter will come from Indian production. The growing presence of TATA and other suppliers like Foxconn drives India’s position as a fundamental global manufacturing base for Apple products.
