Tesla will launch its operations in Mumbai on July 15th to enter the Indian market for the first time. The Elon Musk-led company announced the opening of its first India showroom which they branded as an “Experience Center” at Maker Maxity Mall in Bandra Kurla Complex of Mumbai. Tesla generated social media excitement through exclusive invitations to celebrities and influencers and media representatives who speculated about Elon Musk’s potential attendance.
The Indian market will see Tesla compete with BYD and Tata Motors when it launches its flagship Model Y as its initial product. Industry reports indicate that five Model Y units have been transported from Shanghai which suggests that the vehicles will be available for purchase right away. The company plans to begin deliveries in August while a Delhi showroom is expected to follow soon.
The upcoming Tesla Mumbai launch faces a major pricing obstacle because of India’s 70% import duties. Tesla plans to establish its position in India’s expanding electric vehicle market through its advanced technology and luxury brand appeal.
The July 15th event marks the beginning of Tesla’s direct sales operations for Indian customers which will introduce a new era for electric mobility in India.
