As part of the comprehensive PM Internship Scheme, which was introduced on a pilot basis on October 3, Indian companies in industries such as agriculture and related activities, automotive, and pharmaceuticals have already started advertising openings for interns. Companies like Alembic, a prominent pharmaceutical company, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Max Life Insurance had posted 1,077 internship positions by Thursday morning.
Many more companies are anticipated to join over the next few days. According to a source close to the development, “as many as 111 companies have already come on board for the scheme and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs is carrying out a virtual exercise for familiarisation and training for them.” A senior government official stated, “The majority of the internship will be in production and maintenance related aspects of work based on the interactions with companies.”
Internship opportunities were advertised for seven districts in states, including Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Telangana, and Gujarat, in the early hours of the portal’s launch. With the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and data sifting technologies, the portal will connect candidates with internships; the goal is to guarantee that they land internships at businesses in their own or a nearby region. “The internship won’t require any candidate to go outside of their state. An internship in a neighbouring Pin Code will be offered by the business or any organisation in its forward or backward value chain. The government organisation BISAG is in charge of running the portal.
With the objective of offering 1.25 lakh youth internship opportunities, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs will refine the whole plan and present it to the Cabinet based on the lessons learnt from the pilot project. The insider stated, “This should be done later this year.” The online site, which has been available for firms for now, will be open to applicants from October 12, which is Vijaya Dashmi and they will have time till October 25 to register.
Nonetheless, applicants have already begun to contact the toll-free multilingual call centre for the program with a number of enquiries. According to the profiles of the applicants that phoned, 44% of them are graduates, 13% are post-graduates, and 11% passed the 12th grade. A further 3% of callers were 10th pass rate, and 1% of callers were 8th pass rate. The category of miscellaneous comprised an additional 20%.
