Actor Sunny Deol, long speculated to be in the two-part trilogy, formally confirmed his participation to SCREEN a day after Ranbir Kapoor openly recognised his role in director Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and gave details about the much-awaited production. Sunny, whose brother Bobby Deol joined at the third SCREEN Live event in Mumbai, disclosed that he is involved in the film and offered some details about it.
Ranbir said he has finished filming the first instalment of the two-part franchise at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah. “It has two parts,” he remarked. I’ve completed Part 1’s filming and will shortly begin Part 2. I am humbled to play Ram just to be a part of that tale. For me, it’s a dream. It’s a movie with everything. It educates about husband-wife and family interactions, which are important to Indian culture.
Now, the project is even more exciting because of Sunny Deol’s confirmation. He revealed, “Ramayana is a lengthy project since they’re attempting to make it similar to the production of the Avatar and Planet of the Apes films. It involves all those technicians.” During the SCREEN event at KC College in Mumbai, he stated, “The writer and director are very clear about how it has to be and how the characters should be presented.”
In light of the criticism directed at numerous recent blockbusters for their poor visual effects, particularly Om Raut’s Prabhas and Kriti Sanon’s film Adipurush, which was based on the Hindu epic Ramayana, Sunny promised that the Nitesh Tiwari production will have striking visuals. Additionally, you will see amazing effects that, rather than giving the impression that they are special effects, will give you the impression that the events have occurred. In all honesty, I do not doubt that it will be fantastic and that everyone will adore it,” he continued. Although there are allegations that he portrays Hanuman, Sunny denies this.
Producer Namit Malhotra expressed his concept for the project on X (previously Twitter) in November of this year. He wrote, “More than ten years ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen.”
In a different post, he wrote, “And today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture – our ‘RAMAYANA’– for people across the world.” “Come along with us as we realise our dream of proudly and reverently bringing our greatest epic to life,” Namit continued. Diwali 2026 Part 1 and Diwali 2027 Part 2. From our whole family of Ramayana.
According to reports, the production has a stellar cast, with Sai Pallavi and Ranbir Kapoor portraying Sita and Ram, respectively. Kannada actor Yash will play Ravan, while Ravi Dubey has announced that he will play Lakshman. The first portion of the movie will be released in 2026 at Diwali, while the second part will be released in 2027.
