Google launched a new film and TV production initiative during a time when Hollywood studios face increasing production expenses. The “100 Zeros” project represents a multi-year partnership between Range Media Partners which aims to identify and co-produce groundbreaking content. Through this initiative Google wants to demonstrate its Artificial Intelligence and spatial computing tools as creative storytelling elements that merge physical and virtual environments.
The tech company previously supported the promotional campaign for indie horror film “Cuckoo” and co-produced the 2023 release. The current Hollywood production expense surge and last year’s strikes may find relief through Google’s new initiative. The film industry now faces additional challenges because former President Donald Trump introduced a 100% tariff on imported foreign-made films.
The collaboration will introduce two upcoming films titled “Sweetwater” and “LUCID” during the current year. The companies intend to create Artificial Intelligence-based projects through their joint development efforts during the upcoming 18 months.
The “100 Zeros” initiative from Google does not aim to utilize YouTube as its primary platform. The initiative directs its focus toward both traditional studios and streaming services including Netflix. The company made this strategic move after ending YouTube Originals production in 2022 to concentrate on Shorts and user-generated content.
