The Polish parcel locker network InPost acquired UK delivery firm Yodel for £106 million to establish the third-largest independent delivery service for online retailers in the UK. The acquisition increases InPost’s UK market position from 2% to 8% which represents a significant advancement of its expansion plans.
The acquisition of Menzies Distribution in October marked InPost’s expanding dedication to the UK market before this recent purchase. The company plans to unite its locker-based drop-off system with Yodel’s extensive home delivery operations under a single branded logistics network.
The combined organization will process more than 300 million annual parcels while supporting over 700 online retailers. The UK now generates about 30% of InPost’s total revenue.
CEO Rafał Brzoska declared the acquisition as a major step forward while stating it would accelerate the UK market growth that normally requires five years of organic expansion. The market shows significant expansion possibilities according to Brzoska who explained InPost aims to bring its European achievements to the British market.
InPost acquired 95.5% of Yodel’s parent company Judge Logistics Ltd through a debt-to-equity transaction. PayPoint maintains a 4.5% stake in the company while PayPoint holds onto its ownership stake which marks a pivotal change in UK logistics operations.
