The Indian FASTag users will gain access to an annual pass system which enables unlimited travel on national and state expressways through a single payment of ₹3,000 per year. The proposed system change will simplify toll collection processes and provide better convenience to users while transforming the FASTag operational model.
The new FASTag model provides users with two adaptable payment choices. The ₹3,000 annual pass provides unlimited highway access to frequent travelers who do not need to recharge their FASTag accounts. Users who drive occasionally can select a pay-per-kilometer system which costs ₹50 for every 100 kilometers instead of the current variable toll system.
The government plans to remove physical toll booth barriers from FASTag’s upcoming system update. The complete barrier-free system will improve traffic movement while decreasing fuel consumption and producing substantial reductions in toll plaza congestion. The improvement supports India’s digital highway development goals.
The current FASTag accounts will continue to function properly while the transition process remains seamless. Users can transition between the annual or distance-based plans without needing to create new accounts. The ₹30,000 pass for 15 years will no longer be available to users.
The upcoming implementation of the FASTag system will bring enhanced user-friendliness and efficiency and expanded accessibility to millions of Indian road travelers.
