The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Consumer Affairs Ministry, has recently carried out raids on godowns of major e-commerce companies, Amazon and Flipkart. These actions were taken after discovering non-certified products supplied by Techvision International Pvt Ltd. The seized items were unapproved electronics and appliances, e.g., electric water heaters, food mixers, room heaters, gas stoves, toys, and speakers. In response to these events, Amazon has restated its position on compliance and consumer safety. We have said that we are fully cooperating with the authorities to address this issue and ensure that all products sold on the Amazon marketplace are certified. The Consumer Affairs Ministry said that product safety and compliance standards must be maintained and that legal action has been taken against the involved entities. The ministry’s investigations were able to pinpoint Techvision International Pvt Ltd as the supplier of the non-certified products, which led to the raids at two of their facilities in Delhi. This crackdown shows that the government is determined to see to it that products that are sold through e-commerce platforms are safe and meet the required quality standards to avoid selling goods that are dangerous or of poor quality to the consumer.
