Mobile internet and call access became unavailable for Vodafone subscribers in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Pune during an unexpected network outage on Friday morning. The telecom provider has announced that the technical fault has been fixed.
A Vodafone spokesperson confirmed, “Our network services were briefly impacted in NCR due to a technical issue. The issue has been resolved and all services are now back to normal.” The company also expressed regret for the inconvenience and thanked users for their patience.
The outage-tracking platform Downdetector showed a rapid increase of complaints beginning at 12:30 am before reaching its peak at 1:00 am with 1,880 reported issues. The main affected regions consisted of New Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Mumbai and Pune. The data indicated that 71% of users lost their signal while 21% became completely without service and 9% faced problems with mobile internet connectivity.
Users who were frustrated about the outage used social media to report problems with receiving OTPs and accessing online services. Users reported that restarting their devices along with using the Vi app did not solve their connectivity problems.
The network outage occurred shortly after Citi Research announced better funding possibilities for Vodafone while ICRA lifted its credit rating which improved expectations for the telecom’s $2.9 billion fundraising initiative.
