The April Fool’s Day prank from Zepto created a nostalgic rollercoaster reaction among their customers. The quick-commerce company presented fake comeback products which included Cadbury’s Bytes alongside Hippo Chips and Cheetos Tazo Edition to trick users into thinking their childhood treats were returning.
A Zepto customer posted an Instagram video that demonstrated the prank’s execution. The viral video clip from the Zepto app has gained 2.4 million views and received more than 120,000 likes while showing the “The Grand Comeback” section. She tried to purchase Hippo Chips through her cart until a “You’ve Been Fooled!” message suddenly appeared on her screen. The message displayed “Happy April Fool’s Day” before prompting users to send prank messages to their friends.
Users responded immediately with a combination of happy and sad emotions. The prank from Zepto proved too much for users because they considered it “diabolical” according to one comment. The customer felt thrilled when he jumped from his chair but his excitement turned to sadness shortly after.
A brand has executed this type of prank multiple times before. Swiggy implemented a trick in 2023 by reintroducing Cadbury Bytes on their platform to deceive users about the snack’s return.
