Washington, D.C. – The United States U.S is shifting its foreign policy philosophy, focusing on domestic concerns rather than overseas entanglements. The country has recently changed its policy from engaging in international wars, managing foreign aid, and getting involved in diplomacy.
President Trump has also continued the ‘America First’ policy which means that the country is no longer going to be involved in international engagements that do not concern the country’s interests. The administration has already cut funding to several international aid programs, has redirected military resources towards homeland security and has reduced diplomatic efforts in areas where the United States’ involvement has been under scrutiny.
“This is about taking care of our own people first,” a White House spokesperson stated. “We have for too long spent billions on problems abroad while our own infrastructure crumbles and Americans struggle with healthcare and economic uncertainty.”
The shift has sparked mixed reactions. Some of the supporters of the move have said it is about the time the U.S. stopped playing the world’s policeman and began to address issues like job creation, border security, and national debt reduction. However, the critics of the policy argue that departing from the position of global leadership may reduce the country’s strength and leave power gaps that other countries may fill.
In this case, from foreign aid to military commitment, the United States is showing a new era of national priority – America first. It remains to be seen whether, in this era of rising international tensions, this inward shift will make America stronger or more solitary.
