Sakshi Malik, one of the best female wrestlers in India, will release her biography in October. In it, she provides an “honest account” of her life, including all of its highs and lows. Co-authored by Jonathan Selvaraj, “Witness” is published by Juggernaut Books. Malik’s memoir is a fiery account of her life from childhood to the Rio Olympics, her journey after the games, her battles and victories over injuries and self-doubt, and her most recent public conflict with the Wrestling Foundation of India (WFI) administration that took place in the streets of New Delhi.
According to a statement from Juggernaut, her narrative offers intriguing glimpses into the world of women’s wrestling in India, including training, camp life, body image, dating, money, and what it takes to be a top international wrestler.
“It’s a very genuine description of my life, with all of the highs and lows and everything in between. About her literary endeavour, Malik adds, “I hope readers enjoy this book as much as I did. I gave it my all.” The publisher of Juggernaut Books, Chiki Sarkar, describes “Witness” as “one of the great memoirs of our time – Sakshi has written a no-holds-barred book”.
“It beautifully depicts her childhood, the world of wrestling, and what it takes to be an Olympic medallist in addition to discussing her problems with the Wrestling Foundation of India. To be releasing this historic book makes us really pleased,” she continued.
Malik left professional wrestling in December 2023. She was the most well-known female wrestler in India at the time and the only one to win an Olympic gold while competing in matches that were still going on.
